Acupuncture

Acupuncture has been practised by Eastern cultures for thousands of years and involves the placement of needles into locations on the body in order to treat a wide range of disorders. Acupuncture has been used successfully in the treatment of many types of animals for a wide range of conditions.

When to use

Acupuncture has been used to treat humans for many centuries and is now being applied to many animals suffering with a range of conditions. It can be used as an aid in the management of a number of dehabilitation illnesses. Acupuncture can be divided into two approaches: Traditional Chinese Medicine, which aims to restore the balance between physical, emotional and spiritual factors and is considered a holistic approach, and the Western Method, sometimes known as the ‘Scientific Method’ this describes the actions of acupuncture in terms of the neuro-endocrine systems including endorphin and serotonin release as well as the autonomic nervous system. It is possibly best to combine these two approaches and to use acupuncture to compliment conventional veterinary medicine where appropriate.
